Jim Miles is a dedicated agent whose past clients have described him as honest and knowledgeable. Throughout his life, Jim has been recognized for his friendly personality and ability to connect with those he serves. His desire to help others succeed have created many opportunities for his professional advancement. While attending the University of Utah, and employed over the summers installing natural gas meters in new and existing homes, Jim’s work ethic and passion for business were honed. He learned that he enjoyed working with people, especially where he could find a solutions that work for all parties’ best interest.
After college, Jim’s position was at a commercial door, frame, and hardware company in the role of warehouse manager. His fine efforts led to his first promotion to that of “inside sales”. This experience became the foundation that would go on to excel his professional development.
After two years of working through the needs of General Contractors door needs, as the inside salesman, relationships were established. Following those first two years, Jim was asked to lead the preparation of all architectural submittal packets – this included product overviews and the responsibility of door and hardware needs for company projects. Within three years, Jim established himself as one of the top project and sales managers in the company.
Jim places a high value on relationships. This trait has brought him fulfillment and helped open doors for new opportunities. An example of this is when Jim and a business partner purchased one of their competitors. For his hard work in negotiating and consummating the purchase of the struggling company, Jim was given the responsibility of leading the re-organization. Within one year, sales were up over 50% and the company had realized profits for the first time in many years. A unfortunate falling out with the business partner ended his dream of owning his own business, however this experience taught him a great lesson “the every dark cloud has a silver lining”. Within weeks, Jim interviewed with one of the leading lock manufacturers in the U.S. and accepted the offer to head up the Rocky Mountain states territory. Again, Jim accepted the ambitious challenge to turn around a territory that was under performing. Within twelve months, the unit had exceeded every single sales goal it was given. Sr. Management was pleased and Jim and he was recognized as “Salesman of the Year” and his region “Territory of the Year”.
Over the next twenty years Jim’s career path took him within the commercial door business. He received many awards and recognitions for his advisement and sales achievements. In that period, Jim personally negotiated millions of dollars in sales. From 2003 to 2007, Jim was the chief estimator and later the Vice President for the door division of BDL MILL (located in Salt Lake City and a division of Swinerton Construction located in San Francisco). In 2008 Jim returned to his roots, and joined the first door company that he started out with decades before, as their Marketing Director and Contract Negotiations Specialist. In 2009, Jim accepted the challenge to assume the territory manager position of central Utah and there he increased sales 37%. (Additionally, during 2005-2009 Jim and his son managed the building of several custom homes in Utah, while working full-time.)
Jim’s first wife passed away in 2006 from Breast Cancer. He and his new wife, Karen, are advocates of fighting cancer of any type. Jim and his wife Karen moved to the Boise area in 2013. This would be Jim’s last leadership role with a commercial door company.
Jim’s passion to succeed have been displayed over and over again. With his understanding of business, construction systems, and many years of experience in life, he looks forward to helping his clients in any way he can. Jim is extremely personable, knowledgeable and ready to assist you with your real estate needs.
